Training in the value systems for Seventh Grade students: A Creative Design

August 9, 2017

Year: 1975

Research Problem: To design a values package to create awareness and understanding for seventh grade students in the value system so as to achieve a more complementary classroom atmosphere.

Method: The value system is based on Clare Graves’ seven levels of psychological existence: Reactive, Tribalistic, Egocentric, Conformist, Manipulative, Sociocentric and Existential. In addition, the package was designed to integrate the affective and cognitive levels of learning into an experimental learning situation.

Results: The package included written material, games, and activities, which are all designed to create self-awareness and maintain relevancy for the students. This included the Teacher’s Handbook and Student Booklet, which explained the concept of the values system. The need for relevancy and self-awareness and other-awareness was promoted throughout the package.

Conclusion: The package was created with the intention for it to be reworked and reapplied to other age groups and situations. It is hoped that the creation of such a design would stimulate interest inthe area of testing and studying the applicability of the package. If the package proved to be successful, the possibly it could be used as a basis for further study and research in the area of values.
