Research Problem: To construct a program framework relating to relevant factors of the law enforcement environment to a communication crisis format.
Method: The methodological concern will be a) background and context of crisis control training, b) development of a communication selection and training programme, and c) application of the program framework. Selection involves a detailed look at four test instruments:
1) the Adjective Check List,
2) Semantic Differential,
3) Niederhoffer Cynicism Scale, and
4) Adorno F Scale.
Results: The training framework developed is theoretically based upon the Carkhuff Systematic Human Relations Training procedure with practical application to family crisis intervention.
Conclusion: The final result of family crisis intervention training should initiate four changes. The first effect relates to the officer undergoing training. A result of this project is to sanction compassion making it possible for policemen to be compassionate without experiencing ego threat. Successful trainees can crack the mould of police indifference and cruelty. A hopeful quantifiable consequence of this program is probably the reduction of police injuries and family homicides.
